"Sleepy Hollow - Sleepy Hollow (Family Import)
Forget about Ringo's album, George and John's involvement and the outside possibility of Paul chipping in something on the side - the Beatles are alive and well and living in Sleepy Hollow.
If you don't believe - and there are no non-believers on the NME staff since I demonstrated a couple of Hollow tracks - give a listen to Richard Billay, vocalist and guitarist with the band, as he transforms himself into Lennon circa '63 on "One Time" a kind of son of "Love Me Do". Then if your heart hasn't been too weakened by the initial shock, flip back to "Sincerely Yours", a track which suggests that the CIA must have been bugging Abbey Road on behalf of Family Productions back in '69.
There's more too: "Take Me Back", a production-type ballad which would make a great single, "Roller Coaster Man" where "Get Back" and "Proud Mary" seemed to be juxtaposed and... well let's just say that half you life seems to be flashing past your eyes and disappearing up the Mersey Tunnel.
All right, so everything on the album is a sheer cop (Kop?) but I bet you a jam butty to a picture of Allen Klein that you'll love every minute of it. Sleepy Hollow are the best thing to come from Family since Lynn Carey flashed her boobs on that Mama Lion album - they could easily be as big.
FRED DELLAR (NME 1973)"
